Un cuchillo que no corta is a solo exhibition by Alejandro Javaloyas, curated by Sofía Moisés, first presented at Galería Reus in Mallorca on June 4, 2026. The exhibition unfolds as an intimate atlas of images suspended between beauty and the uncanny. The works originate in recurring nightmares, which the artist has recorded for years as brief notes in a notebook kept beside his bed. From these fragments, Javaloyas constructs a personal mythology that touches on universal concerns: the inexorable passage of time, aging and decay, the fear of death, spirituality, and the human need to give form to what cannot be fully understood.
The project traces a circular journey between image and language. A dream first appears as an intense mental image, then fades until only a brief written note remains. Through text-to-image AI models, that note becomes an image once again—one that both recalls and misinterprets the original vision. From hundreds of generated images, Javaloyas undertakes a rigorous process of selection, cropping, blurring, and digital manipulation. The resulting images serve as photographic references for his hazy, blurred, and ethereal colored-pencil drawings, whose delicate surfaces carry an underlying sense of oppression.
